Well, I did it! I sent my wee one off to her very first day of kindergarten. And, yes.....I cried! Bawled like a piece of my heart had been ripped out. Oh, wait....that did happen. They just grow up too fast!
I have five incredibly different children whom I love. All of them. Love 'em the same amount of completely. But, Sophie has always been my special little pet. She is the child I fought for....fought to get and fought to keep. There are four years between Maddie and Sophie--and two treasures in Heaven from that same time span. There was a time I didn't think I'd have more children...and a short while that I didn't think I'd ever be able to take the risk again. And, then, there was Sophie. She--in so many ways---is my reward. So, today was hard...for me. Not her. A few butterflies. And then she told me..."Mom, today is gonna be a GREAT day!" And, boy is she right!!!
And, I stayed dry until I hit the car. A GREAT day, indeed!!!
Now that this sweet thing is off to a full day of school, I'm left with the Captain and CoCo....perhaps some tears were rooted in this fact?????? LOL!!
Can you feel it? That adorable little kid is plotting and planning....what mayhem will he partake of now????
It's just a matter of time before his plan will see light, I'm sure of it!
ANYWAY....enough bibble babble. Let's get on with our Chicka Challenge winner announcement and second Chicka Challenge!
The winner of the Challenge #1 is: Joyce!! Here is her delicious card:
A huge thank you to everyone who played along!!!
Our winners were chosen by random selection. Go see who won the goodies from Dawn's Blog.
We sure hope that you continue to play along :)
Our challenge for this week was to use some new distress paints each of us picked up during our little shopping extravaganza! Our general consensus on this product was, iffy at best. There are a lot of ways to add distressing to a project that don't involve paint---I'd go that route in the future. Of course, I do tend to shy away from anything messy that makes me wait....LOL!! Not a good trait for a mother of a toddler or two :)
The distressed look created with Ranger Distress Paints is definitely hard to capture on film. Make sure to click on the photo to enlarge it so you can see the finer details.
I began my background piece by painting a 3 x 5 piece of black cardstock. After letting it dry on it's own for about 10 minutes, I used my heat gun to thoroughly dry the whole piece. When it was sufficiently dried, I added a flourish in each corner and mounted it to a slightly larger piece of black cs.
My image comes from an older Stampin' Up! stamp set called Song Birds. I stamped and masked the image and then airbrushed the background with my Copic airbrush system. I trimmed the oval (out of the box style) with my Coluzzle and then cut a black mat with my Nestibilities oval die. The verse is also part of the Song Birds set.
I sponged some Ranger Black Soot distress ink on the image and verse pieces as well as the background piece to complete the look.
If you play along---and, I hope you do, and upload to Splitcoast or Paper Planet, please use the Key Word "Chicka2" with your upload! You don't need to use the paint to play---any of the wonderful distressing techniques you know will be wonderful! Naptime, glorious naptime......
TTFN, Jane

Aw Jane, I sure feel for you! I hosted a "BooHoo" party for the parents of kindergartners at our school. We handed out tissues and goody bags to help the parents cope -- the kids all did great!
I know you'll miss her, but she'll come home so excited by all the day's events. And this will be NOTHING compared to the day when she packs up and moves to Richmond with her husband. We'll take good care of her! ;)

I love these cards! Totally different and completely wonderful. I think Joyce's card is one I'll be lifting. Yours won't be so easy, but I may give it a try.
I remember when my first child went off to Kindergarten. She left the house all sweet and shy. After school, she breezed in looking sophisticated and blase. I have pictures to prove it! LOL.
