Joy, Joy, Joy!

{you have to kind of sing the post title to get the full feel...}

Happy Birthday wishes are going straight out to Joy Kennedy of Eclectic Paperie and Our Craft Lounge.   Led by the awesobomb Cambria, a bunch of us have banded together to wish Joy an extra-special birthday with a toy suprise inside!! 

The spectacular girls from Our Craft Lounge have collaborated on a special eP exclusive stamp set featuring this adorable sea turtle named Kona.  Seriously, how cute is this dude?

For my sneak peak card (the birthday sentiment is NOT part of the set), I found the perfect paper in my sinfully large stash of goodies!  It's older from Kalideoscope, but perfect in every way!  Kona is colored with Copic markers.  I'm using a sketch from my binder of found sketches--I believe this one is from Taylored Expressions.

The final touch:  little white flowers from my SU! Pretties kit adorned with red bling!  Makes me think Hawaii--even though I've never been....too much sand and bikini for this old girl!  LOL!!

Here at my house, we celebrate Birthday Week!  OCL and eP aren't leaving you out of Joy's birthday week celebration either!  You can get your very own Kona set!! We all need a little birthday cheer now and again....and, since it IS a birthday celebration, you can eat cake too!  What a great way to end your week!

Boho Chalkboard....

I rarely share my Stampin' Up! club  projects...I like m'ladies to be suprised!  However, I love this card so much, I just had to share! 

I've recently been focusing on my little used Chalks (others refer to them as Pastels)--last month's technique class at the Stamp Shoppe featured them, as well.

Why?  Why would I revert to such an archaic coloring medium when I have my luscious Copics and Many Marvelous Markers--not to mention every color of ink known to Stampin' Up!?  The answer quite simply, they're cool!

We, as humans, tend to be exclusive and limiting in our thinking from time to time---KWIM?  Once my mumma discovered Copics, she felt she no longer needed her Marvelous Markers--silly girl!  I had also recently considered passing my chalks on to the kiddo's--something new for them to destroy :)  After my little adventure in the land of all things chalky, however, I think I'll be keeping them.  There are lots of things to do with everything--it's all in the knowing.  And, I might mention, knowing takes time.  So if you are a new stamper or a new techniquer...hold on and enjoy the WHOLE ride!

Now, if you're wondering how you'll go about learning all there is to know about using a variety of products and tools, you have a few options:

1.  Subscribe to the Technique Junkies Newsletter.  In my opinion, there is no better source for technique learning.  Pat offers a very affordable on-line option in addition to her regular subscription choices.  I love having the hard copies to browse through over and over again.  I keep them all in a 3 ring binder.  Whenever we are traveling, I grab my binder to take with.  I don't even subscribe to any of the idea magazines for card making--my TJNL is all I need--great ideas with step by step instructions!

2.  Join a stamping club.  If you are local to me and are interested in joining my club, send me an email--we're meeting again on June 1 and would love for you to join us!

3.  Check out your local stamp store for classes.  The Stamp Shoppe offers a full array of classes each month.  I personally teach a technique based class and a Hambo class each month.  My Hambo classes always include more than just stamping and coloring--so, even if it looks like a simple class, you'll still be getting good information about techniqes, tools and product.

4.  Go Blurfing--if you have the time, there are lots of great artists out there in blog land making videos or step by step project tutorials...whatever did we do before the internet?

Go! Learn what there is to know and pass it on!

An Amusing Challenge of My Own

I regularly follow Glenda's Amusing Challenges.  While I've not participated in the last several, I'm still a fan and plan to get back on track soon!  Today, I'm sharing my own little Amuse Challenge--get my stamps inky!!

While working on a class for the Stamp Shoppe the other day, I had some supplies left over and decided to ink up my new Amuse Panda.  Isn't he cute?  I love love love Amuse images, but often struggle with making them fit my A2 card fetish.....next, I think I'll work on challenging myself to go ALL AMUSE-ing!  Stay tuned for that!

Speaking of the Stamp Shoppe--yes, we were!!  I'll be teaching my latest and greatest Hambo class there in just two short days!!!  Have no fear, however, I still have a few spots available.  If you are local to me, hurry down to sign up and save your place in this fun class!  To tempt you further, here are the yummies we'll be working on:

Celebrate You....Red, White and Blue

Finally a moment to post my Blogger's Challenge card for this week!  We've been hit relentlessly with health issues here in Bosiville!  Now that I've bleached every surface of my home, I'm looking forward to having the windows open and, hopefully, ridding my home and wee ones of this crud!

While I've managed to sneak a few stamping moments in over the last week, I've not been lucky enough for much computer time.  If I have to choose, I'd rather stamp--that's for sure!

This is my Blogger's Challenge card for this week--the theme, Patriotic.  So, it's true, if you dress up a monkey in a blue tutu, she'll dance!  LOL!!  I'm so in love with these adorable images from Stampendous.  The "celebrate you" verse is from Lizzie Anne Designs.

I've used a few of my favorite, quickie techniques--faux stitching and paper piecing.  I know some people shun the paper piecing because it is too putzie and it's hard to use a scissors for something so intricate.   However, I find the whole process very relaxing and will gravitate to this technique over and over again as a stress reliever.

Many of you are off relaxing on this long weekend.  I wish you well and safe travels.  My continuous prayer is for the men and women--and their families--of our Armed Services.  I celebrate you!!  I ask for your protection and am grateful for your sacrafice.  Blessings to you--

They're Coming......

New stamps from Hambo!!!  What a great way to usher in the summer! 

I thought I'd play along with today'sMojo Monday sketch and share a peak at the new Hambo designs.  I've  paired the new Hammock Pig with an older (favorite) Sun---nothing says cute like a shade clad smiling sun!!

My pattern papers are from SU!'s Flamingo designer paper pack.  I love the combination of turquoise, yellow and red--so summery!

I added a bit of faux stitching on the yellow patterned square and rounded it's edges to compliment the circular elements of both the sketch and designer paper.  I then continued the piercing on the "wave" piece (created with the Big Shotz Swirly die--this is the negative space) to tie everything together.

What you may not be able to see is the paper piecing on the palm trees.  I double stamped the trees and then cut the leaves and coconuts from the second image, layering them on top using dimensionals.  The sun is also adhered with a dimensional.

This card will be part of my June Hambo class at the Stamp Shoppe.  I'm planning on a great array of projects--I'll be combining the fantastic designs of Hambo stamps with the Big Shot die cut machine...stay tuned for the rest of my projects and then, come join me!!  BUT, don't forget about my May class either!  I'll be posting a picture of that class later this week so, make sure to check back!

CASEing Me...

This week's Blogger's Challenge is to CASE ourselves...who doesn't look at a first card and say....BOY, I'd love to redo that someday!!!

Interestingly, I was teaching an oldie but a goodie (Faux Linen) at a club meeting recently, and had pulled out my very first Faux Linen card.  I remember when I made it, I was just in love with it; as I discussed the card and the technique, however, I made the "BOY, I'd like to redo this card" statement.  It had been my plan to do just that, but for the life of me, I couldn't find the card....

So, today, I'm caseing me casing someone else....LOL!  This card, also, is from one of my first years as a demo.  Although the idea for the card was not mine, I made it so long ago, I cannot remember who it was.....this is still a favorite set and card of mine :)

This original card uses the Stampin Up! colors of So Saffron, Old Olive and Cameo Coral.  Stamp sets--all of which I still own--are Terrific Tulips, French Script and Linen Backgrounds.

For my CASE, I maintained the same color scheme (with additions of Chocolate Chip and Always Artichoke)  and basic layout, but used stamps from Impression Obsession and a few "new" elements.....

To start, I stamped the floral vase on White cardtock and then masked it to add the Italian Script Background.  I also stamped the floral vase on So Saffron and Old Olive scraps, trimmed and pieced them on to the main image.

I added some ribbon, torn and sponged edges, a bit of glitter and a antique brad to finish things off.

That's if for me---we've had one heck of a week and I'm just glad the weekend is here!

Just Beachy....

Swim suit weather is just around the corner!!  Can't you feel the sand squishing between your toes?  I neither long for swim suits nor squishy toes, but this Just Beachy set is the bomb!!

I'm back this week with the Technostamper Monday Sketch Challenge!  A rarity for me, this card is 100% Stampin' Up!

Cardstock is Kraft, Pacific Point, and Tangerine Tango.  Stamps are  Just Beachy and the jumbo Stamp Around wheel called......Lazy Days???  Something like that :)

I almost wish we actually had a beach to visit around here.....and that we surfed......or looked good in swim suits.....LOL!  This is a perfect scrapbookin' set.  I actually wish I had time to scrapbook, too

Oh, anyway, I've recently become interested in the whole Clean and Simple style of stamping.  I definitely think this one would qualify.  It's a sweet card and fun to make.  The only thing missing is a sentiment--what would you have it say?

Happy Mother's Day & A Little Mojo

I hope everyone is having the greatest day ever!!  My darling hubba gave me the day to stamp!!!  Isn't he the best?  I've been blasting my iPod and ignoring most of my children all afternoon!!  The Captain got up from his nap and said "what you doing?"   I replied, "I'm not here..." To which HE replied..."yes, you are...see?"  LOL!!!!  So, then I said, "don't see me..." and he went away......I wonder if that will work on a different day?

Anyway, I've been stamping and singing all afternoon, so I thought I'd share.....Because I usually don't stamp on the weekends (and am usually playing catch up with other stuff), I've never participated in the Mojo Monday sketch challenge before.  Here is the sketch I'm using (it was posted on May 4):

Flamingo Designer Paper and cardstock from Stampin' Up!  Keep in mind that SU! is running a special on it's designer papers during the month of May--Buy three, get one free!!   What a deal!!

I'm such a sucker for paper---but, I think you knew that!

I love the coordinating colors of this particular pack:  Real Red, Tempting Turquoise, Summer Sun and Cameo Coral--that's one that I rarely use, but what a great compliment to the others.

I covered a scallop square chipboard piece with a scrap of DSP--so so easy!  I simply traced it, cut and ran the paper through my xyron to apply adhesive.  You really could use any kind of adhesive--I just wanted to get good coverage so the paper wouldn't peel up. After the paper was secured, I used my Crop-a-dile to add holes to each scallop.

Also used:  Copic markers (my ony tidbit of contraband), Real Red ribbon, SU! scallop edge punch.

I've been itching to use my new Stampin' Up! set, Just Beachy.  I hummed and hawed over to buy, but just couldn't resist the cute images!

I love those fish.... :)

Happy Mother's --Blogger's Challenge

This week's Blogger's Challenge is, of course, to create a Mother's Day project--I started this one almost six years ago.....

LOL!  I know, you may think me a lame cheater who was just too disorganized and busy to create a traditional Mother's Day card.

Truth be told, I made several...and promptly got them in the mail so as not to be late for my momma and MIL.  We aren't traveling to see either this weekend because of the kids having 5ths (kids are fine, but don't want to take chances with my FIL's health).  It's hard for me to not celebrate with the grandma's and I really wanted to make sure their cards made it on time.  Yes, I forgot to scan/take pictures (that's the busy, disorganized part!)

ANYHOOO....I was stressing this afternoon--wondering how ever would I fit it all in-the BC, finishing up a few classes, a special upcoming bday (you know who you are!) not to mention laundry, meals, dishes and kiddies.

I snuck off to try to squeeze a few things in only to return to my desk and find this:
